Aunt I’s is not only the name of the restaurant but the nick name of a real person, Inez Grant. The vision was born out of a mother's exceptional Jamaican country-style cooking ability, a love for people and a heart for service. Inez had a yearning to open a restaurant ever since she moved to Florida from Kingston, Jamaica.

Inez began cooking out of her home in 1986 with the help of her children doing their part. The menu was simple and limited to the more popular and traditional Jamaican dishes. The word got out that "dis lady can really cook" and in a short time the house was filled with people from all over, including family, friends and we made new friends. This was the beginning of our customer base. By 1987, the first Aunt I's was opened; and because of fantastic word of mouth advertising, Aunt I's quickly became a very popular and successful Jamaican restaurant.
 
Signature dishes like Aunt I's Oxtail, the Special Brown Stewed Chicken and our made-from -scratch Jerk Chicken, have helped to make Aunt I's a standard of excellence in Jamaican cuisine.

In 1996, a second location was added in the Fort Lauderdale area and a third in Pembroke Pines in 2003. Due to the tough economic times and changes in demographics of the city, the original Miami location was closed in 2012.

In April of 2009, the founder, president and Chief Head Chef of Aunt I’s Jamaican Restaurant, Inez Grant died after a 12 year battle with cancer. She has left an indelible mark on all who knew her and the Caribbean community at large.

In 2011, Aunt I’s was chosen by the Food Network to appear on their show the “Heat Seekers” and in 2013 the national network, ABC selected us for their food show “The Chew”. We were also ranked by the South Florida community as one of the top two Best Jamaican Restaurant on our local Channel 10’s Top 10 Jamaican Restaurants of 2013. We have truly been blessed.

Today with 2 restaurants and plans to enter new business opportunities and develop other restaurant concepts, we continue to provide our customers with the "feel at home" comfort and courteous service we started back in the house over 25 years ago.
